iPhone App Review: Runmeter

in Blogcritics/SciTech by Greg Dawson

Running has long gone social with countless running-focused Facebook-esque sites popping up daily. And there are already several running apps on the market. However, none have combined both the social and tracking portions as uniquely and effortlessly as Runmeter by Abvio. In fact, I’m going to make a bold statement and say that I believe Runmeter is the best executed running app on the market, hands down.

RunKeeper Versus Runmeter on the iPhone: A Newbie Runner’s Review

in Xconomy by Wade Roush

Runmetercame out in September 2009 and currently ranks just below RunKeeper in the health and fitness category of the App Store. Abvio also makes separate programs for walking and biking called Walkmeter and Cyclemeter; all of them cost $4.99, with no free versions. (Cyclemeter is currently ahead of both RunKeeper and Runmeter in the App Store rankings.) Given that Abvio’s focus is entirely on its apps, the Runmeter app feels slightly more built-out and feature-rich than the RunKeeper app.

Great powder, fast runs and social networking

in MSNBC by Christopher Elliott

Before he downloaded an iPhone app called Cyclemeter, Donald McNeill had only a vague idea of where he’d skied on any given day. But after he hit the slopes of Killington, Vt., for a few early-season runs earlier this winter, he knew exactly where he’d been — right down to the minute.

Dailymile integration means that Abvio app users can share workouts in real time with the Website and get messages of encouragement from dailymile friends during workouts.

Macworld Expo 2011: Runmeter runs on

in TUAW by Mike Schramm

There are a lot of running apps available on the App Store, but Runmeter is a favorite of ours. It’s incredibly full featured, and at US$4.99, it’s also one of the most generously priced apps of this type. We got to meet up with Abvio CEO Steve Kusmer, a former executive who’s translated his business knowledge and passion for running into a strong fitness app business, to talk about version 5 of Runmeter (already submitted and due out soon) and what’s in store for Runmeter and the other Abvio titles.

Runmeter 5.0 Review

in 148apps.com by Chris Hall

Runmeter is like Rocky to Nike’s Ivan Drago. It won’t oversex you with slick interfaces and pro voice actors, but it’ll certainly track your run with the best of ‘em. For a user like me, the only real difference between Runmeter 5.0 and the Nike GPS app is that Runmeter is slightly simpler to set up and doesn’t have celebrities telling you how good a job you did at the end. If you like to run with your iPhone, don’t hesitate to pick this one up.

Runmeter Update Adds New Voice Options, Import Capabilities, and More

in AppAdvice by Tyler Tschida

RunmeterAbvio’s powerful exercise tracking app for iPhone, has just been updated to v5.0. This latest and rather substantial update adds new voice options, importing capabilities, a customizable stopwatch, and much more.

Runmeter for iPhone Review

in AppleTell by Josh Holat

Runmeter also has some cool features that I think really make it stand out from other running apps. Along with the ability to hear your stats during your run, it also has automatic stop detection to tell when you’ve stopped running and pause your time for you. Furthermore, you’re always able to import or export all sorts of data related to your runs so you can compete with others and take that data where ever you want. And as you’d expect, you can share this data with sites like Twitter, Facebook, and dailymile as well.

Abvio releases major updates to Runmeter, Cyclemeter and Walkmeter

in iLounge by Jesse David Hollington

Abvio has released updates to Runmeter, Cyclemeter and Walkmeter, its trio of iPhone GPS-based fitness apps for tracking exercise performance. The three applications are built from the same foundation, each optimized for running, cycling and walking, respectively. The apps allow users to track their workouts recording such data as time, location, distance, elevation and speed and then view their results on maps and graphs organized by routes and activities with a summary for different time periods.

Review: Cyclemeter from Abvio

in Bike World News by Timothy O’Connor

This $4.99 app is a wonderful addition to any cyclist’s iPhone. The basic functions include ride time and distance as well as current and average speed and a mapping function which includes elevation data. Every ride is recorded on the app’s calendar, and in the calendar view, data can be rolled up to show trends for the week, month, or year. In addition, the Cyclemeter lets the user name routes, and each day’s relative performance on a route is reflected on the calendar.

Review of Runmeter 5.0 for iPhone

in Examiner.com by Laura Buchanan

Runmeter is an economical option to use to accurately track your running mileage and stats without having to buy other fancy and expensive GPS watches and computers.  I highly recommend Runmeter for its outstanding and fun features as well as for ease of use and accuracy.

Cyclemeter App Review

in Talking Treads by Kurt Rummel

One of the features that sets Cyclemeter  apart, is that you can have it announce your stats via the iPhone speaker or headphones. This really is helpful if you are one, such as myself, that doesn’t want to look down at a computer while navigating through traffic or barreling down a technical trail. While on the subject of announcing, if you email, tweet or post your status on facebook, the app will post your stats every five minutes and even read to you what your family and friends are saying about your ride.

Cyclemeter iPhone App

in Bike Britain by Jonathan Medhurst

Cyclemeter also allows you to view summaries of your rides, either by week/month/year. It’s very interesting to see what the accumulated distance/ascended meters, ride time and calories are. Cyclemeter is ‘Social Media’ friendly, meaning that once you’ve ‘polled’ your ride, you can automatically update Twitter and Facebook feeds with details of your ride (it’s possible to define what information is shared here)… In summary, a functionally superior App, that once purchased comes with free updates. I’ve been thinking how else you could improve Cyclemeter. I don’t think you can. So go and buy it and see for yourselves – and say bikebritain sent you.

Run-Tracking App Knows When You Stop

in Wired by Charlie Sorrel

Abvio’s trio of motion-tracking iPhone fitness apps have been updated with a major new feature: they know when you stop.

This information isn’t used to detect the lazier amongst us, but to give more accurate readings of your times and average speed. The three apps, Cyclemeter, Runmeter and Walkmeter, now use GPS signals to detect when you stop moving. They then ‘roll back your elapsed time to when the stop started,’ adding this chunk of time to a new “stopped time” counter. This means that when you next get stuck at the traffic lights (or stop for a beer), you won’t see your average speed.

Run app updates: News on the Nike+, Runkeeper, and Runmeter fronts

in TUAW by Erica Sadun

Abvio’s Runmeter, another well respected tracking app is my personal go-to app for my bike rides and walks. Although it offers many tuning features, it provides a host of ‘just track me as I go and let me monitor my trips’ features that I find friendlier to use on a day-to-day basis.

The Best iPhone Fitness Apps for Getting Back in Shape

in AOL Tech by Amar Toor

Getting in shape doesn’t have to involve bench presses or marathons. For some people, getting out of the house and taking a stroll can be enough to get the blood flowing and the life expectancy increasing. ‘Walkmeter’ will keep track of how fast and how far you walk, and, with the help of GPS tracking, will even chart your peregrinations on a map. If you’re in need of some extra encouragement along the way, you can share your results with friends on Facebook, Twitter and e-mail.

Verdict: A great way to add some high-impact geekiness to your low-impact workout. ‘Walkmeter’ ($4.99)

Data for Goals – Mac Mondays #1

in lovingthebike.com by Myron

I’ve been using Abvio’s Cyclemeter for the past 3 weeks.  This is the first time I’ve used any kind of technology on my rides and walks (other than my iPod/iPhone for music) and I can honestly say that it has changed the way that I am engaged in the activities.  The configurable announcements have motivated me to try to continually better my previous results and I like how I am notified about my performance in relation to earlier rides.

Abvio’s Runmeter, Walkmeter And Cyclemeter Updated With Auto Stop Detection, Calendar Sharing

Abvio’s iPhone-centric Runmeter, Walkmeter and Cyclemeter have been updated with two very useful and often-requested features: automatic stop detection and calendar sharing.  It’s just another healthy step in the right direction for outdoor exercise enthusiasts.

Connecting DailyMile with Cyclemeter

in Scripting News by Dave Winer

When I go for a ride, when I reach the starting point, I get out my iPhone and reset Cyclemeter. When I stop to rest, I hit the Stop button. When I resume the ride I hit continue. When I’m done, I hit Done. At that point it sends me an email with a link to Google Maps that opens a KML file it generates that contains all the info about my ride.

Running With My iPhone And Runmeter

in Cyclist2Runner

Why do I like Runmeter?  All of the above-mentioned programs track your time, distance and pace, do GPS map-tracking, allow music to be played simultaneously, can announce various details during the run (e.g. pace, mileage, time) and provide detailed post-run data and/or graphs.  Of course, both RunKeeper and MapMyRun steer you to sign-up for their premium services, which have subscription fees.  The attractive feature of Runmeter is that all the data is self-contained on the iPhone.

Cyclemeter iPhone App. Review

in Bike2Blog by Michael Alan Bielat

I am an iPhone owner and you better believe I did a search for anything and everything that dealt with mountain biking. I found a couple iPhone apps and gave some of them a shot. The one that was my absolute favorite was Cyclemeter. The app is also modestly priced at $4.99 in iTunes and is worth every penny.

iPlaid? 11 Apps For the Aspiring Hipster

in Flowtown by Dan Martell

The transportation of choice for most hipsters is the fixie. Before the days of iPhones, a fitness-conscious hipster would have had to cramp his style with a very uncool bike computer stuck to his handlebars to track distance. Cyclemeter is the solution – an app that uses the iPhone’s motion-sensing and GPS capabilities track your speed, distance, elevation and more. Best of all, you can easily share all of this data on Facebook and Twitter, using Google maps to show all of your friends how you took the alternate route through the art district this morning.

Cyclemeter is the best GPS bike computer I could ask for.

iPhone App. Reviewer: Cyclemeter

in The Rose Garden

Cyclemeter has a mid-range price: $4.99. It’s sophisticated enough that you’d hardly expect it to be a two-buck app, and in fact if it weren’t for the skewed pricing expectations of the app store, I’d call it under-priced. Although I plan to use it with the handlebar mount, you can get the stat-tracking functionality with it just sitting in a pocket or bag. So for anyone who happens to have an iPhone and who happens to do any significant biking at all, I’d say what the heck, give it a try!

Apps That Will Have You Breaking a Sweat, Not the Bank

in Savings.com

This next one gets the tech geek in me all super giddy. The Walkmeter 4.0 combines GPS and stopwatch technology and helps you track location, time, and distance of both your walks and runs. It even keeps track of previously used routes utilizing Google Maps and suggests new courses to help you improve upon old walking and jogging times. The cost is just $4.99. Other cool features include a stop meter (Automatic Stop Detection) that calculates when you’ve stopped moving and Calendar sharing for synchronization with your iPhone Calendar.”

Runmeter and Cyclemeter for iPhone Review

in Macworld by Matthew Honan
also in Businessweek as Runmeter and Cyclemeter for iPhone

At one point in the very near past, if you wanted to track your speed and distance over a bike ride or run, calculate your calories burned, listen to music, share exercise data with friends, and view your route afterward, you’d need a cyclometer, a calculator, an iPod, an e-mail program, and, of course, a map. Today, however, all of these functions have been rolled into one device, the iPhone, thanks to great fitness tracking applications like Runmeter and Cyclemeter from Abvio.
